FAQs

What age for the kid to join?

Ideally 4-8

However, we are open to kids who are going to JK in September to help with training on social skills, self-regulation and school preparation if your child is potty-trained.

What is special about your camp?

A big part of our program is practical, real-world learning. For example, children may:

• Bake mini cupcakes
• Create fruit skewers
• Make simple healthy drinks such as lemon-honey mocktails
• Participate in hands-on science experiments
• Explore nature through Forest Play, observation games, and outdoor discovery activities

We also place a strong emphasis on social-emotional development. During group activities, educators actively coach children in communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.

One thing that makes our program different is our small-group setting. We intentionally keep a low educator-to-child ratio (approximately 1:5), which allows us to provide more individualized attention and build stronger relationships with each child.

What will my child learn?

Since Summer Camp is organized on a weekly basis, we don't follow a traditional academic curriculum. Instead, each week is built around a different theme that helps children learn through hands-on experiences and exploration. Our themes include topics such as world cultures, famous artists, animals and habitats, science discovery, and nature exploration during Forest Play.

We understand that every child is different. During quieter periods of the day, if there is a specific area you'd like your daughter to strengthen—such as reading, early writing, or math practice—we're happy to incorporate some individualized support.

What topics do you teach?

For summer camp we teach them by topics which you can find here (topics around culture, famous artists, animal worlds, forest play).

What is the time of summer camp
  • Hours: 9am - 4pm daily. Before and after care is subject to demand and available with additional fee.
  • No half-day program or part-time options.
It seems to be a bit out of our budget.

We know there are many excellent summer camp options in Waterloo. Some families prefer larger camps with bigger groups and a wider variety of large-scale activities. Families who choose Smartizen are usually looking for a more personalized environment where their child can feel known, supported, and connected while exploring nature, science, and the world around them.

Can I take my child for a visit?

Absolutely yes, we would recommend that to make sure your child is familiar with our facilities. Please contact our office to arrange it: info@smartizen.ca
